Festival fun in Wallsend

The annual Wallsend Festival returns this weekend with a fun-packed programme.

The community event, which is celebrating its 24th year, will take place in Wallsend town centre on Saturday 5 July between 10am and 4pm.

There will be live music, fairground rides, circus workshops, stalls, character walkabouts, face painting and activities in the library.

Local artists from North Tyneside’s Emerging Artists Project will be performing on the bandstand outside of the Forum Shopping Centre. There will also be dance performances and a community choir.

Segedunum Roman Fort will host Rockfest Music Comp featuring young musicians and bands from the borough’s schools, community groups and North Tyneside Music Education Hub. The winner will have the opportunity to perform on the main stage at this year’s Mouth of the Tyne Festival.

The museum will be offering free admission throughout the day for those wanting to explore the town’s Roman history.

Wallsend Library will be open between 9am and 1pm, offering their warm welcome refreshments as well as arts, crafts and games.

Fairground rides will be located on the High Street and at Coronation Street Car Park, while some information and food stalls can be found near the bandstand.
