Council teams roll up their sleeves for a day of action in Howdon

Council teams rolled up their sleeves to give the streets and estates around Howdon a good clean-up.

Staff from environmental services spent a whole day working in Langdale Gardens, Alston Close, Brough Gardens, Kendal Gardens, and Brampton Gardens.

They picked up litter, cleared weeds, and removed bulky rubbish - free of charge - to help keep the area looking its best.

Community Protection Officers were out in force as well, chatting with residents about any concerns they might have around antisocial behaviour, and the team issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for littering.

The day was organised in response to feedback from residents who specified where improvements could be made.

Councillor Hannah Johnson, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:  “We want every neighbourhood to be somewhere people feel proud to live and these clean-up days really make a difference.

“Our teams work hard to keep our neighbourhoods clean, and they take great pride in the work they day for local people, but we need everyone to play their part by using the available bins and letting us know about any issues when the occur.”
