Buckets and spades at the ready – Whitley Bay Sandcastle Competition returns

Whitley Bay’s annual Sandcastle Competition returns this weekend, with families, friends and beachgoers of all ages expected to take part in a day of fun by the sea.

The free event – now a staple of the summer calendar – takes place from 10am on Sunday 10 August, in front of the Rendezvous Café, and promises a day of seaside fun, music, and friendly rivalry.

Organised by the Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade and supported by North Tyneside Council, the competition invites people of all ages and skill levels to build their best beach creations and impress a panel of judges for the chance to win fantastic prizes.

Alongside the main event, there’ll be plenty to keep visitors entertained throughout the day, including funfair rides, face painting, and live music from Bay Uke – Whitley Bay’s own ukulele band.

The event schedule includes:

  • 10am – 12pm: Registration and face painting
  • 10am – 12pm: Izzy’s face painting
  • 10am – 2pm: Funfair rides
  • 12pm – 1pm: Live music from Bay Uke
  • 1pm: Sandcastle judging begins

Everyone is welcome to take part or simply enjoy the atmosphere. Organisers are expecting hundreds of people to attend, and with the weather forecast looking favourable, it’s shaping up to be another brilliant event.
