A beacon will be lit outside Tynemouth Priory and Castle at 7.30pm on Thursday 21 April in celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle, before beacons are lit throughout the country.
Over 1,000 beacons will be lit across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories to celebrate this landmark birthday.
The Tynemouth event will start just after 7pm with welcome speeches and a performance from Monkhouse Primary School Choir who will sing Happy Birthday. The public are invited to attend the event in a designated viewing area outside the Gibraltar Rock.
The beacon will be lit at 7.30pm and will be followed by the National Anthem.
Nationally, many different organisations are taking part from all areas of the local community by lighting beacons, including town, parish and community councils and youth organisations. Beacons will be lit at churches, on farms, country parks, village greens and on country estates. Lighthouses, National Trust and English Heritage properties are also taking part.
The Army Cadet Force are taking special gas fuelled beacons to the top of the Four Highest Peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis, Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Slieve Donard.
