Shining a light on foster care

North Tyneside Council is showing its support for an annual campaign set up to raise the profile of fostering.

Foster Care Fortnight, which will take place between May 8 and May 21, is the Fostering Network’s annual campaign to help raise the profile of fostering and show how it can transform the lives of both the carers and the young people involved.

Foster carers earn competitive allowances and the role offers flexible working, including short-term placements, such as providing weekend care, as well as longer term foster care.

It provides a lifeline for children in challenging circumstances, for example, when a parent takes ill or is unable to provide the care needed due to other challenges.

To mark Foster Care Fortnight, the council will be holding an information event, on May 17, at Whitley Bay Customer First Centre, from 6pm- 8pm, to give potential foster carers the opportunity to talk to others already doing the job.

Members of North Tyneside Council’s fostering and adoption service will also be on hand to answer any queries that attendees may have.

For more information, contact the council’s fostering and adoption service on (0191) 643 2540, email fosteringandadoption@northtyneside.gov.uk, or visit the fostering section of the council’s website: www.northtyneside.gov.uk/fostering.
