Let's go fly a kite!

Stunning kite displays will fill the sky in Whitley Bay this weekend.

Some of the UK’s best kite flyers will be in attendance for the Whitley Bay Kite Festival this weekend, with magical kites of all shapes, sizes and colours.

Taking place on the Links, in Whitley Bay, the festival has dozens of dazzling displays for young people and families to enjoy.

Kites will be on show from 11am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The Kite Festival is part of the borough’s Summer Festival, supported by Teleperformance UK.

Also this weekend, hundreds of beach-goers will be gathering on Whitley Bay beach to put their building skills to the test in the Whitley Bay Sandcastle competition, after it was postponed last weekend.

The annual bucket and spade-a-thon returns to Whitley Bay beach on Sunday 5 August at 12pm, with prizes on offer for the best creations.

Displays are weather dependant and may be subject to change. For more information, call (0191) 643 7409 or email events@northtyneside.gov.uk.

More spectacular events can be found in the council’s annual summer festival programme, which can be picked up in all council buildings, or found online at www.visitnorthtyneside.com.
