Northern Children's Book Festival kicks off

Schoolchildren in North Tyneside have been meeting renowned writers as part of the Northern Children’s Book Festival.

The two-week festival, which features visits by authors, illustrators, poets and other storytellers within and for schools, got underway on Monday (11 November).

Poet Paul Cookson, best-known for titles such as The Poetry Store, Pants on Fire and The Truth About Teachers, visited students at Burnside College before meeting pupils from Richardson Dees Primary School and Holystone Primary School at the Wallsend Customer First Centre. He finished his tour at St Cuthbert’s Primary School.

During the visit he read youngsters extracts from his books and signed copies for them.

The other writers meeting schoolchildren in North Tyneside throughout the festival are Simon Bartram, Alan Windram, Fiona Shaw, Adam Baron, Ross Montgomery, Anna Fargher, Kate Pankhurst, Smriti Halls and Nicola Davis.
