North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn CBE has hit out at the ‘injustice’ of the A-level grading system in a message to Schools Minister, Nick Gibb MP.
The former headteacher has joined a chorus of disapproval from school leaders across the country, after hundreds of thousands of students saw their A-level results downgraded, following a last-minute change to the grading system in England.
The Elected Mayor is now demanding answers from central Government.
She said: “This has already been a very difficult year for young people in North Tyneside and across the country.
“They had an expectation of what they would achieve and in some cases that has been taken away from them. It is an injustice and I feel very sorry for those who have lost out as a result.
“It is important to remember that our young people in North Tyneside are very resilient and I would urge them to not get too down-heartened but to continue with the same level of application, and focus on what they plan to do next.
“We will give them and their schools all the support they need.”
