Libraries in North Tyneside are focussing on literature and local history to celebrate Black History Month.
The council’s library service is commemorating the contributions of black people to North Tyneside communities and promoting black community history and literature.
'Great Reads for discovering Diverse Voices' is a collection of books by distinguished black authors such as the late Toni Morrison, Ralph Ellison, Zadie Smith, and the Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe. These are all available to order and reserve at libraries across the borough.

The Old Low Light Heritage Centre, in North Shields, is inviting residents to discover the story of Mary Ann Macham; an enslaved woman who escaped from the USA and became part of the local community in 19th Century North Shields.
