A virtual apprenticeship fair which will feature apprenticeships and other opportunities for young people rounds off a week of events as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, North Tyneside Council is continuing to show its support and promote apprenticeships to both prospective apprentices and businesses.

Taking place from February 8 to February 13, the council will be part of the national week-long celebration aiming to highlight the amazing work being done by employers and apprentices across the country.

North Tyneside Council has welcomed over 200 apprentices since 2014 across a number of different teams, ranging from environmental services to business administration apprenticeships.

To help shine a light on apprenticeships for both employers and jobseekers, the council’s Employment and Skills service will launch a dedicated website with information on the apprenticeship programme.

Local apprenticeship providers including Accenture, Barnardo’s, Lomax training, TyneMet College and Northumbria Health Care will be featured on the site, which will be found at www.skillsnorthtyneside.org.uk/NAW2021 during National Apprenticeship Week.

The week will culminate in North Tyneside with the annual Get up and Go event on Saturday 13 February.

Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn CBE, said: “I’m delighted that we are once again supporting National Apprenticeship Week here in North Tyneside.

“While our activities might be slightly different this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic our message remains the same – we are a council that wants to promote and encourage apprenticeships in our borough.

“Apprentices bring a unique energy to a workplace, with their own ideas and qualities that you rarely find anywhere else, so it makes me very proud to see apprentices come through local businesses and here at the council.

“Apprenticeships allow excellent on-the-job experience, while obtaining qualifications that they can take on and use to kickstart their career.

“Our annual Get Up and Go event will be held virtually this year, with a number of other events, if you are interested in learning more about apprenticeships, I’d encourage you to attend and see what could be there for you.”

‘Get up and Go’ aims to raise awareness and understanding of apprenticeships amongst young people aged 15-19 and their families. It has proved to be a popular event, with over 520 people attending in 2020.

This year, the digital event will be held between 10am and 12pm on Saturday 13 February, where over 20 employers and providers will be present to discuss the opportunities available for both apprentices and trainees.

Businesses such as Accenture, Capita, Northumbria Healthcare and North Tyneside Council will be in attendance for the event.

The Get Up and Go event will be hosted at www.skillsnorthtyneside.org.uk/NAW2021, for those who want to attend.
