North Tyneside Libraries are inviting people to help celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a range of events and activities.
Big Jubilee Read
The Big Jubilee Read is a national reading for pleasure campaign celebrating great reads from across the Commonwealth to coincide with the Jubilee.
An expert panel of librarians, booksellers and literature specialists has chosen seventy titles from a "readers' choice" longlist with ten books for each decade of Her Majesty The Queen's reign. The list offers brilliant, beautiful and thrilling writing produced by authors from a wide range of Commonwealth countries over the last seventy years to engage all readers in the discovery and celebration of great books.
Big Jubilee Read | RGfE (readinggroups.org)
In celebration of the Jubilee, The Reading Agency has donated copies of Michael Morpurgo’s There Once Is A Queen to libraries. Each library in North Tyneside has received a copy.
Right Royal Read
All 11 library authorities in the North East will be holding a Right Royal Read on the week beginning 23rd May. Libraries will be holding story telling sessions for children, reading ‘The Queen’s Handbag’ by Steve Antony. There will also be linked craft activities, such as drawing what the Queen keeps in her handbag. In North Tyneside, classes from Richardson Dees and Amberley Primary will be taking part in the sessions and all of the children involved will get a copy of the book to keep. Story times in all our libraries that week will have a royal theme.
Party at the Palace!
It's the biggest event in the history of Buckingham Palace - The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations...the only problem is, the pressure is getting to Penelope, the Royal's newly appointed event organiser! Can you help her plan an unforgettable party and save the day? Meet characters from the royal staff, make decorations, create menus, design costumes and help bring the whole extravaganza to life.
