North Tyneside Council has launched a new way to shop for local products and services through a virtual high street shopping app.
The mobile application, ShopNT, provides a platform for customers to order from nearly 200 businesses in North Tyneside to click and collect or schedule a zero-emissions delivery on an electric cargo bike.
The app offers exclusive discounts and events to every customer registered and is available to download on iPhones via the App Store and Android devices via the Google Play Store.
Norma Redfearn CBE, Elected Mayor of North Tyneside Council, said: “This is a fantastic new way to shop across the borough, and will encourage more people to choose to support local businesses. Our new electric cargo bikes will help customers make climate conscious decisions when shopping as well as encouraging inclusivity and access for all.
“To welcome the launch of the app we’re offering a hamper prize to the 500th customer to register their details on the app, full of locally sourced goodies from businesses on ShopNT.”
Dan Brand, owner of Barista Boho, said: “At Barista Boho we are strong advocates of shopping locally – we work with local artisan bakers and suppliers wherever we can. We are very excited to be part of the ShopNT platform and look forward to using it and building even stronger relationships with our fellow businesses across the borough.”
Paul and Lucy Hull, co-founders of For the Love of the North, said: “The ShopNT app is a wonderful way of discovering all the amazing small independent businesses in the borough. There's a great community of businesses out there all run by people who are passionate about what they do. Small businesses bring such colour and variety to our high streets and offer so many wonderful and unique experiences for shoppers.”
Mayor Redfearn, added: “We’re encouraging businesses within North Tyneside to register to the app to sell their products and services for no cost to the business.”
