Children’s centres across North Tyneside are relaunching as Family Hubs this month in a move to encourage more families to access its services.
Located in Shiremoor, Riverside and Howdon, the former children’s centres will continue to offer free activities, early help and support to families and intend to be a one-stop shop for services, including breastfeeding, parenting support, childcare and healthcare, through to training and skills advice.
Family Hubs aim to bring a range of services together and make it easier to access different types of support that might otherwise be hard to find.
All North Tyneside families are welcome with children of all ages from conception, throughout childhood to adolescence and even older if a child has a special need.
Speaking of the changes, Cllr Steven Phillips, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning at North Tyneside Council, said: “Ensuring we have the right support in place for our residents is really important, and I’m delighted that this move to family hubs will help to emphasise that the support that’s on offer at these locations is for all members of a family, and not just children.
“We want to give families the chance to have fun together and develop skills for school, work, and life in a friendly, welcoming space and that’s exactly what these hubs offer.
“We’ll be speaking with local residents, agencies, and our colleagues to find out what they’d like to see in these hubs to help us expand our offer. As we develop our Family Hub offer over the next year, we want to see an increase in the number and range of services delivered, including co-location of services and professionals where possible and outreach services into our communities.”
North Tyneside Family Hub programme is a multi-agency partnership led by North Tyneside Council and is the latest example of the local authority's long history of working in partnership to improve outcomes for children and families.
