Hundreds flock to North Tynesides most successful apprenticeship fair

More than 500 prospective apprentices headed to North Tyneside Council’s annual apprenticeship fair, marking its most successful event to date.

The popular ‘Get up and Go’ apprenticeship fair took place on Saturday (18 February) with more than 30 exhibitors representing a range of occupations and sectors.

With exhibitors  from leading employers including Nexus and Northumbria Healthcare alongside a range of local businesses, there were hundreds of opportunities on offer.

The fair aims to bring together young people looking for an apprenticeship or simply want to find out a little bit more on the scheme and employers who have apprenticeships available, giving them the chance to showcase their business and job sector to encourage young people to choose their sectors career paths.

The council is committed to supporting employment across the borough and the annual event has proven to be a great way to match young people with employers as 95% of attendees said they will be following up conversations after the event.

It was a great occasion for apprenticeships too, as 97% of attendees at the event said they’re now more likely to consider an apprenticeship after seeing what’s available in their area.

Cllr Hannah Johnson, Cabinet member responsible for Employment and Skills at North Tyneside Council, said: “We’re all extremely delighted that so many people came to our apprenticeship event to see the value and opportunities that are available through the apprenticeship route.

“We have a fantastic offer here in the borough with such a broad range of roles available for anyone looking to get started in their careers. The fair can be a great encouragement for residents to apply for apprenticeships by introducing them with prospective employers, and I’m sure the event will lead to many successful paths to employment.”

The fair was organised by North Tyneside Council’s dedicated Employment and Skills service who work with a range of residents across the borough to develop their skills and knowledge and support them into employment.
