North Sea Weekender returns to Whitley Bay this weekend with a paddle board event kicking off a series of activities over the next few months.
The Big Dippa takes place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August featuring competitive and fun paddle board competitions off Whitley Bay beach on the Saturday, alongside street food, a bar and live music at Spanish City Plaza throughout the weekend.
Hosted by Northern SUP Race Team and Northerly Swell, the paddle board events will run throughout the day on Saturday from 9am to 5pm while Whitley Bay Renaissance DJs Micky Mo, Paul Hulme and Stevie Baxter will provide the soundtrack for the weekend with their soul and funk tunes.
On bank holiday Monday (August 28), North Sea Weekender will be joining Dip Club Social with their monthly Deep North ‘Dunk n Doughnuts’ swim at King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth. Swimmers can take a morning dip, followed by a pre-ordered hot drink and doughnut, before taking away a special locally designed print.
Next month will see North Sea Weekender’s first silent discos. The family-friendly events will take place on Saturday 23rd September at Cullercoats Beach. Disco Tots will be for the younger movers featuring kids party hits, as well as some 80s, 90s, and 00s classics for the grown-ups. The second disco will be for music loving families to have fun together, perfect for the teens.
September will see the annual Tynemouth Surf Open return. Hosted by Tynemouth Surf Co, the event takes place on Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October.
Running alongside the surf comp will be a full weekend of yoga experiences and workshops, from Shore Yoga.
There will be some brilliant one-off shows featuring talented musicians. Liam Fender will play two gigs at the Salt Market Social on September 15-16, while Lee-Ann Curren and Michael Curran’s Deaf Fiction will perform at Tynemouth Watch House on September 22 and 23. Remaining tickets for all shows are at www.seetickets.com.
