2,000 primary school children across North Tyneside enjoy Northern Children's Book Festival 2023

A festival dedicated to inspiring children to read for pleasure has come to a close after more than 15 events over the course of two weeks.

Six different authors have shared, performed and entertained children from 15 different primary schools across North Tyneside.

The majority of events were held for classes or year groups of children who visited North Tyneside libraries for the hour-long sessions, with five schools playing host to the authors themselves.

Authors Ben Davis, Cath Howe, Ian Brown and Marie Basting were on the schedule alongside poets and authors Dom Conlon and Paul Cookson who each talked to children about their books, their characters and their inspiration. Each session ended with a Q&A where children were able to ask about reading, writing, stories, characters, sequels, illustrations, drawing, events and more.

Now in its fortieth year, the Northern Children’s Book Festival is about encouraging reading and storytelling as a fundamental part of a child’s life.

There are a wide range of events in the schedule at North Tyneside libraries for children and adults. For more information search ‘Libraries’ on the North Tyneside Council website.
