Whitley Lodge pupils are on the path to Paris

Olympic fever has taken hold at a Whitley Lodge First School with a dedicated week of activities putting pupils on the path to the Paris Olympics.

From a dedicated lunch menu featuring French classic meals through to fun lessons designed to immerse them in the culture of the Olympics, the week celebrated art, culture, and creativity.

Pupils explored the work of French artists and created their own work of art, learnt French songs, discovered the history of the Olympic games, and tried their hand at Olympic sports during PE.

In Design and Technology lessons, the pupils created their own Olympic icons too, designing and making their own mascots for the 2024 games.

The week finished with an invitation for parents and carers to attend a celebration event where pupils showcased their fantastic work.

Jennifer Palmer, Headteacher at Whitley Lodge First School, said: “We’re really excited for the Olympics to take place so close to home in Paris this Summer, and we knew it was a brilliant opportunity to get our pupils immersed in the excitement.

“We spent the week learning all about France and the Olympics and mixed educational lessons with fun experiences like creating masterpieces in the style of French artists, trying out the different sports and creating our own mascots. The results were brilliant!

“We’ve truly travelled the path to Paris this week and we can’t wait to watch the games with the knowledge and experience we’ve gained.”

Whitley Lodge First School is based in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside for children aged between three to nine.
