Elected Mayor of North Tyneside Karen Clark speaks on her priorities

Karen Clark was announced as the Elected Mayor of North Tyneside on 2 May 2025.

Karen is proud to have been born, brought up and raised her own family here in North Tyneside, her children and grandchildren live in North Tyneside and attend local schools.

Built on her manifesto pledges, which were shaped by the views of our residents, communities and businesses across the Borough,  Karen will focus on tackling the underlying causes of poverty and health inequalities  including the following issues:-

  • A clean, green and safe Borough.
  • Increasing jobs, skills and work experience opportunities.
  • Giving our children and young people the best start in life.
  • Increasing affordable and social housing.
  • Providing quality care to those who need it most.

Work will start shortly on a new Council Plan, which will be shaped by listening to residents, businesses, and the voices of North Tyneside’s vibrant communities.

Speaking following her election win Karen Clark, Elected Mayor for North Tyneside said,

“I am incredibly proud to have been elected as the Mayor for North Tyneside.

“I want to continue the work that has been delivered in the Borough over the last 12 years whilst looking at how we continue to change and grow to meet the challenges we all face and address the priorities of our residents, communities and businesses.

“In developing our new Council Plan, I will be working together with local people, listening to the voices in our Borough to shape plans going forward. 

"I will work to the best of my abilities, together with our residents, to deliver for all in our brilliant borough, and as promised, make North Tyneside an even better place to live, work and visit.”
