North Tyneside road project nears completion

Roadworks Sign

The final stage of the A1056 Killingworth Way Improvement Scheme will get underway at the end of this month.

In 2019 North Tyneside Council entered into an agreement with Avant Homes – under section 278 of the Highways Act – to deliver improvements in support of the new housing development, Cygnet Park.

Delivered by the council’s strategic delivery partner Capita, these works have included widening Killingworth Way, creating an access road for the development and constructing new pedestrian crossings.

The final element of the scheme is the road’s resurfacing, which will get underway from Monday, February 24, and last around five nights.

The A1056 Killingworth Way will be closed between 8pm and 6am with a clearly signposted diversion in place.

This will direct road users along Station Road, Northumbrian Way, Southgate, then on to Great Lime Road and Benton Lane, before returning to the A189 – and vice versa. Bus services X7/X8 will also be affected.

Following the resurfacing work, the highway construction team will demobilise, however, there will still be activity on site in connection with Avant Homes’ new housing development.
