Registered as North Tyneside Youth Offending Team (YOT)

North Tyneside Youth Offending Team (YOT) is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioners Office registration number Z6903947. This document provides further information on how North Tyneside YOT uses your personal information.

We also provide further details regarding who we are, how long we use your information for, your rights under the GDPR and how to exercise them on the Authority website. 

We use personal information about children who have committed criminal offences to assist us in working with these young people to reduce re-offending and anti-social behaviour. 

What data do we hold?

North Tyneside YOT uses information about children who have committed a criminal offence to assist professionals in the management of the work they do to help reduce re-offending.

We also use it for statistical purposes. For example, to inform decisions on how we work with children and their families and to assess the performance of the YOT.

Examples of information stored about you include (but not limited to):

  • name
  • date of birth
  • address
  • school history
  • offending history
  • all contacts with North Tyneside YOT
  • assessments

On what grounds do you use the information?

Our processing shall be lawful because at least one of the following will apply:

  • Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the Authority is subject; Data Protection Act 2018, Criminal Justice Acts 2003 & 2015, Crime & Disorder Act 1998, Legal Aid Sentencing & Punishment of Offenders Act, Bail Act 2017, Sex Offences Act 2003, Children Act 1989 and 2004, & Working Together 2015.
  • Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Council;

Sharing your information

Where necessary or required we share information with:

  • The Youth Justice Board
  • Police forces
  • Local and central government
  • Ombudsmen and regulatory authorities
  • Healthcare, social and welfare advisers
  • Family, associates and representatives of the person whose personal data we are processing

Retention of your data

North Tyneside YOT will process your personal data for the above purposes for no longer than is necessary. When the information has reached its retention, the information will be securely and confidentially destroyed that accords with the agreed retention period for such records.

Your Rights

Your rights are set out in in Articles 13 to 22 of the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 and include:

  • The right to access your personal information, to request rectification or erasure of certain personal information and to object to processing in certain circumstances.
  • The right to withdraw any consent you may have given to process your personal information.
  • The right to complain to the Information Commissioner if you feel we are processing your personal information unlawfully.
  • The right to restrict processing activity in certain circumstances.
  • The right to object to certain types of processing activity
