Household waste recycling centre/tip

Before you come to the centre

Before taking materials to the Household Waste Recycling Centre/tip, have you thought about donating unwanted items to a local charity shop or an online reuse network?

For information about how to dispose of lots of household items, such as beds, cardboard etc please refer to our A to Z of rubbish.

Using the centre

The centre is a reuse, recycling and waste disposal facility for North Tyneside residents only. It is illegal for businesses to dispose of waste at this site. Please see guidelines for business waste.

We have introduced some new rules to ensure fair usage of the centre, as well as the ongoing safety and sustainability of the site.

These include new restrictions on ‘very large vehicles’ (introduced July 2017). That is any vehicle:

  • over 2m high
  • over 6m long
  • exceeding 3.5 tonnes weight
  • trailers exceeding 3m length, including the tow bar

Flat-bed vehicles are not allowed on site.

Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for a more detailed explanation of the rules.
